New to Giralda, I see. Well, it takes all sorts around here. Take that shifty-eyed weasel by the fire.
Oh, he acts looks like a simple merchant, peddling meager wares, but watch what you say around him. The Empire’s got ears everywhere...
See those two there? They seem all chummy now, but that’s only because Var is trying to convince Jarek to desert the navy in Thisbē and join
those lawless bastards who sail from the Spice Isles. I’m sure that one will kill the other before the week is out, once they’ve got what they want from each other.
Then there’s always the usual mercs; bastards who’d happily kill their own mothers for a coin. Oh, they say those twins from Brelan aren’t so bad,
but a merc is a merc, and money is all they see.
At least there're no damned elves here tonight. One got uppity last month when I insisted the
bastard slept in the stables. A damn generous offer for a half-breed, if you ask me!
Mind yourself if you head into the Wilds. It’s full of things that
would happily eat you and shit you out without a second thought. Even the people who hunt those things are more beast than civil.
Anyway stranger,
what'll it be: a room, or a drink?

CURRENT MONTH: AUREL, 762
This month marks the transition from the scorching sun of summer to the cooling of autumn. The night skies become more magnificent as shooting stars are more frequent, and auroras dance across the horizon. Aurel is a time of harvest when the farmers gather the crops that cannot withstand the upcoming heavy rains of Nandir.
December 2023 Soft hiatus - have a safe, warm, and minimally dysfunctional holiday season!
October 2023 Site month change! New threads (unless set in the past, future, or an AU) should be dated "Aurel 762". See the Information tab for a description of the month. Characters in the Temple Crew should be mindful of the continuity of possible injuries, connections made, relationship changes, increase in wealth, etc. as much as possible as this is set after the campaign.
June 2023 Happy Pride! 🌈

Taliesin turned from the dark waters of the Braughter Basin, gripping his sword in his bloodied hands with all that he had left in him. The creature was dangerous, far more than he anticipated and since it had killed all of his comrades, it would seem it had a taste for sentient beings. Talie scanned his surroundings, noting every rustle of brush or twist of scent as the area around him seemed to darken and his vision went blurry, his senses slowly beginning to disappear as a primal fear erupted in him, causing him to retreat. A tree hit his back and he whirled around, thinking it to be an enemy-- why one would choose to get that close he hadn't a clue but nonetheless he whirled. He struck the tree with his left dagger-- an uppercut to what he thought would be the creatures throat, but turns out to be solid wood.
[break][break]
Get it together! He takes multiple deep, laborious breaths, trying to calm himself from the fear that had taken hold. It was unlike anything he had experienced before, cold and suffocating to his enhanced senses. The elf couldn't keep his cool and now he would have to regain his composure in order to continue his mission. He had to complete the job, complete the contract. He needed the money and the reputation it would grant him.
[break][break]
His vision finally began to clear and a shape was taking form in front of him. A haunting monster with lichen and moss for a body, iron-hard wooden plates as it's skin. There are all sorts of fungi and flora growing on it's grotesque body and a hollowed out hole where it's core used to be. An axe hangs from it's waist from leather strips, covering any organs it may need protected. Taliesin takes note of the creatures craterous hole for a core and the covering it uses to hold it's axe as well as the skull that hands from it's belt. He can't help but think it looks rather disgusting, but then again it lives in a treacherous black swamp with next to no light. He would be the same way without the sun on his skin.
[break][break]
"What is it you wish of me, sacred creature?" His voice is low and respectful, intent on not angering it. "Is it my coin? Would you like some of my food?" He was so intent on not angering it, to get into it's good graces in order to get close, and to shove the chemical explosive into it's charred hole of a core.
[break][break]
"I wish not for your theatrics, for your coin, nor for your mortal sustenance." It's voice is oddly hollow, echoing within his skull until his ears rang. "I want of your flesh and your heart, of your voice and your hope... not these--" It is unfortunate for the ghastly creature that when it is speaking into Taliesin's skull that it is immobile and cannot move. It is unfortunate that he is able to slice his daggers through its core, to plant the explosive and then dive behind a thick oak tree to avoid the bits of charcoal that flew from the guardians body. He cannot believe his luck-- such an assumption was made that he was incompetent with telepathy and it's weaknesses. He had quite the mental fortitude, and to see it so undermined was... heinous, to say the least. He peeks around the deciduous tree, noting the charred and burn remains of his quarry and picking up the core that had somehow survived the blast.
[break][break]
His commissioner would likely greatly appreciate the trophy for his collection, so he put it in his satchel. He would've turned to head back to his camp, but unfortunately for him there was someone standing properly dumbfounded at what had just occurred. "May I assist you?"
