New to Giralda, I see. Well, it takes all sorts around here. Take that shifty-eyed weasel by the fire.
Oh, he acts looks like a simple merchant, peddling meager wares, but watch what you say around him. The Empire’s got ears everywhere...
See those two there? They seem all chummy now, but that’s only because Var is trying to convince Jarek to desert the navy in Thisbē and join
those lawless bastards who sail from the Spice Isles. I’m sure that one will kill the other before the week is out, once they’ve got what they want from each other.
Then there’s always the usual mercs; bastards who’d happily kill their own mothers for a coin. Oh, they say those twins from Brelan aren’t so bad,
but a merc is a merc, and money is all they see.
At least there're no damned elves here tonight. One got uppity last month when I insisted the
bastard slept in the stables. A damn generous offer for a half-breed, if you ask me!
Mind yourself if you head into the Wilds. It’s full of things that
would happily eat you and shit you out without a second thought. Even the people who hunt those things are more beast than civil.
Anyway stranger,
what'll it be: a room, or a drink?

This month marks the transition from the scorching sun of summer to the cooling of autumn. Aurel is a time of harvest when the farmers gather the crops that cannot withstand the upcoming heavy rains of Nandir.

Raiden was born the third of three sons to king Nobuhiro and Queen Makiko. The crown prince was his eldest brother named Hisato, and his older brother was named Keizo. Close in age, the three sons grew up together. The kingdom was surviving well for a time, flourishing even, and run as the king saw fit. There was unrest between the tribes, and at the moment King Nobuhiro was in negotiations with the Byakko Tribe to join together to restore piece. Suzaku Tribe was the main treat causing trouble and rallying other smaller tribes to their cause. The children of Nobuhiro were raised around strife, they were taught about war, and trained to be generals in the name of their father.
While the older boys, Hisato and Keizo where favored by their father the king, Raiden was favored more so by their mother. The youngest of the three, he was coddled and kept from events deemed too dangerous for him. Raiden was more an artist than a fighter like Keizo, or a born leader like Hisato. Just to please Makiko, Nobuhiro allowed her to keep their youngest under her bosom. This divide between brothers slowly pulled them apart, and the once three were now two and one.
When they were old enough, Hisato and Keizo were allowed to join their father on his campaign to rid the lands of the Suzaku Tribe and build a stronger army. They marched with him across their lands where they learned of their true allies, and whom was against them. During that time, while the elder two learned of tactics, the tribes, and what it mean to be a ruler, Raiden was left with his mother in the city where he was lavished with love from her and her friends. During that time jealousy and dark thoughts started to fester within the young man's heart.
Years later, what finally broke him was when both Hisato and Keizo were promoted to generals in the army and honored with their own samurai to lead their men before the battle that would cripple the Suzaku Tribe, a battle that he was not a part of. Raiden had little training and knew nothing of the ways of war he had been kept away from because it was ruled that he would never be able to handle them because he was soft. He was the son of the king, but he was more his mother's pup and no one respected him, not even his brothers.
While Raiden seemed to fall into the dust, Hisato continued to rise and he was engaged to a beautiful woman named Yukishiro. She was the daughter of the daimyo, and a very loyal man to the king. The two seemed to get on well, duty to their city standing above all. However it was Keizo that found the woman to be the most lovely creature on the planet. He dared not for she was his brother's betrothal, but as they met time and time again, he found himself falling in love with her, and she with him. Hisato did care for the woman, but his love would always be more for the city, while Keizo could no longer sleep without thinking of the woman.
While Hisato focused on destroying the last of the Suzaku Tribe and their allies, Keizo and Yukishiro grew closer. In the mean time Raiden grew ever more jealous of his brothers, and he wanted what they had. He would receive no wife of his own, and after a time he withdrew from even his mother's affection. Instead he personally hired teachers to train him to fight with and without weapons to that he may one day fight equal with his brothers.
Months later, after the battle was finally won and the Suzaku were all gone, Hisato left with his father to unite the tribes under one banner and left his wife-to-be alone again. She was a friend to Keizo, his sister to be, and he fought to walk that line with everything in him to remain true, as did she.
King Nobuhiro made plans to wed Keizo to a woman named Kasumi, and he agreed reluctantly, but his heart lied with Yukishiro. The news shocks them both even though they knew it was coming sooner or later. As the second in line, Keizo needed to marry to ensure the dyntasy in case Hisato died. It was then, that very night in the garden that Keizo and Yukishiro shared their first kiss, and Raiden witnessed this betrayal.
A month before the wedding, Raiden told Hisato of Keizo's secrete relationship with Yukishiro and the revalation sent the crown prince into a rage. He went to Keizo and asked if it was true, and when Keizo couldn't deny it, he challenged him to a duel. Yukishiro begged them not to fight and took the blame on herself, but there was no stopping them.
The duel was hard, rough, and neither swordsmen took it easy on the other. As skilled as Keizo was with a sword, it turned out that Hisato was the better swordsmen. In the end, he took pleasure in cutting his brother down, a fitting gesture for one who had betrayed him and stolen his heart. This was justice, this was for honor and even Yukishiro's tears wouldn't stay his blade.
So she did. Over come with heartache and desperation to save the one she loved, Yukishiro threw herself in front of Hisato's blade just as the two men clashed. Her interference shielded Keizo and allowed him to deal a fatal blow to Hisato. Raiden arrived late to the duel, but as he arrived and saw Keizo holding Yukishiro's lifeless body and the body of Hisato's laying near them, he knew that his plan had worked. He quickly called for help and blamed Keizo for killing both.
Under threat of death Keizo fled the city and disappeared in the world beyond. The city would morn that night, but by dawn's light Raiden was declared the new crown prince. And thus his story begins...
