New to Giralda, I see. Well, it takes all sorts around here. Take that shifty-eyed weasel by the fire.
Oh, he acts looks like a simple merchant, peddling meager wares, but watch what you say around him. The Empire’s got ears everywhere...
See those two there? They seem all chummy now, but that’s only because Var is trying to convince Jarek to desert the navy in Thisbē and join
those lawless bastards who sail from the Spice Isles. I’m sure that one will kill the other before the week is out, once they’ve got what they want from each other.
Then there’s always the usual mercs; bastards who’d happily kill their own mothers for a coin. Oh, they say those twins from Brelan aren’t so bad,
but a merc is a merc, and money is all they see.
At least there're no damned elves here tonight. One got uppity last month when I insisted the
bastard slept in the stables. A damn generous offer for a half-breed, if you ask me!
Mind yourself if you head into the Wilds. It’s full of things that
would happily eat you and shit you out without a second thought. Even the people who hunt those things are more beast than civil.
Anyway stranger,
what'll it be: a room, or a drink?

CURRENT MONTH: AUREL, 762
This month marks the transition from the scorching sun of summer to the cooling of autumn. The night skies become more magnificent as shooting stars are more frequent, and auroras dance across the horizon. Aurel is a time of harvest when the farmers gather the crops that cannot withstand the upcoming heavy rains of Nandir.
December 2023 Soft hiatus - have a safe, warm, and minimally dysfunctional holiday season!
October 2023 Site month change! New threads (unless set in the past, future, or an AU) should be dated "Aurel 762". See the Information tab for a description of the month. Characters in the Temple Crew should be mindful of the continuity of possible injuries, connections made, relationship changes, increase in wealth, etc. as much as possible as this is set after the campaign.

Triston is a land to the far North of Vanyar in the western region. It is a small kingdom, with many of its inhabitants living in the countryside. The royal family of Triston is looked upon with great respect, however they do not wield much power over the citizens of the community. They are merely there to uphold the way of life for the people, and act as a link between their people and those of Vanyar.
The majority of those living in Triston grow crops and sell them for profit to other surrounding communities. They are a humble people, and don't venture much outside of the boundaries. Those who do find a different way of life outside, often do not return to their homeland. In Triston, the people of the countryside are underpaid and undereducated. However, when entering the city, it is a vast difference in their way of life. This has always been the case within the nation-state, and doesn't seem to be changing any time soon.
GEOGRAPHICAL OVERVIEW
General: The land of Triston is small and confined, being mostly flat save for a few hilly areas. This is conducive to the way of life there, being that most are farmers.
Major Features: There are no major geographical features to speak of in Triston. At one time a small lake existed as the water source for the people, but dried up many years ago after a severe drought period. The people of Triston rely on neighboring Vanyar for their water source, as it borders both nations.
Major Cities: Triston has but one city within the limits of the nation, which is where the royal family lives. The city of Sa'lee (Sah-leigh) is rich with resources as well as monetary wealth. The surrounding areas are provinces or unoccupied lands.
POPULATION
General: The population of Triston is just over one million, which is almost entirely human. There is a great mistrust of magical beings in Triston, however, there are a few living within the limits of Triston. Those with any sort of magic or magical related ability keep their gift quiet, as they will be shunned from the land if anyone discovered their talent.
CULTURE
General: Triston has a culture similar to Vanyar, being that they value the art of weaponry very highly. That being said, the people of Triston are advocates of education and everyone within the sity of Sa'lee is pushed to their highest point of learning within the nation. The people of this land have always believed that while strength and force are good to have handy, wit and knowledge are the greatest tools that one can possess. Unfortunately those outside of the city are not as well educated due to a lack of resources.
Language: The official language of Triston is the common tongue, though many in the city and surrounding provinces are bilingual. The people of Triston (and Vanyar) have a well rounded understanding of the old language, which is known to some as Ka'tai. Triston shares many similarities in language and speech to the people of Vanyar as they have lived closely since their inception.
Economy: The people of Triston boost their economy solely on trade with those in Vanyar. Since they are cut off from the majority of the world otherwise, they trade in Korin and feed the money that is made back into the economy. The royals of Triston have supported their land for a number of years, and only recently has trade become a factor in their economy.
Magic: Triston is not known for any specific magics.
RELIGION
The following lore contribution is credited to Josefin Pierre .
Deities - Triston views their deities as both greater and lesser spirits. They call on them in times of prayer in their greater forms, they call them by name and titles, and they believe they watch over them in lesser forms, in the cattle, trees, rivers, and plains of their region.
Triston holds five deities above the others, they believe they are the ruling mothers and fathers to the other deities and pray most often to them.
Ciel - God of the Sky | Father of justice and righteousness He fills their lungs with air, he breezes across the plains, and he blows in great storms or quenching rains with the help of the other gods. Many patriarchal temples and groups hold him above the others.
Leaux - God of the Waters | Father of diplomacy and treaties He fills their cups, pours their streams, and fills their lakes. As a landlocked state, they don’t have access to an ocean, but they believe he works in that too. He offers himself to Ciel when Triston needs rain. He is calm in the best of times, carving a route to get what is needed but when angered he can bring wrath and destruction upon them. He is sought for guidance in diplomatic endeavors.
Salete - Goddess of the Earth | Mother of the bounty and commerce She grows their crops, their food, springs forth mountains in the distance, and builds their homes. She is seen in their effigies on their mantles and is known to bless the hearth. As Triston’s main trade is grain and farming, she is greatly adored by their merchants and farmers.
Filou - Goddess of the Flame | Mother of mischief and celebrations. She offers them warmth, is seen in the sun on a bright day, sparks their fires, keeps their hearths heated, and rages alongside Ciel during bad storms. She is also a trickster and will just as soon warm your campfire as burn your house down. She is seldomly asked for help or blessings as the Tristonians are scared of her wrath if she does not deem them worthy.
Ame - Deity of the Being | Creator of life and the soul This one is elusive and secretive. They give life to all beings and beat in their very hearts yet none know exactly their intentions or wishes for Triston. They are seen in the face of the moon though that seems to be the only place they reveal themselves. Most matriarchal and inclusive churches and temples worship Ame above all others.
POLITICS
Historical: Since it's inception as a small nation-state, Triston has always operated under a royal leadership. The first family of Triston developed the ruling, which eventually formed into a monarchy of sorts. The King of Triston has always been the creator of rules and regulation, with men to doll out said rules as well as problem solve.
Current: The King of Triston is very old and ailing, with no sons to speak of to carry on the rulership once he has passed. It seems that land will soon face a change, as a woman will rise to power in the royal family.
MILITARY
Organization: Triston has a very small group of foot soldiers to defend them against domestic attacks. They do not have anyone to send for abroad or long term wars or conflicts with other nations. The Valarocco tend to step in to cover Triston when needed, as their militia have always worked closely with one another throughout the years.
Troops: The gathering of Trison's militia amounts to about 1200 armed men, at its highest. They do not have a populous land, and it is difficult to get men to stay in Triston when Vanyar is close and accepts Triston-bred men as riders on occasion.
