Kerr was a performer at heart. Perhaps in another life, if things had gone differently, he might have become an actor or some such... or a politician if born to the nobility. Same thing, really. When he'd gotten the fascinating little job through a contact that acted as a broker of such things he'd known he was just the man for the job. He had that odd combination of skills, knowledge, talent, and demeanor needed to put together a expedition to the middle of nowhere to find a hidden structure full of forgotten things of a 'lost' culture. The little officious and fussy dwarf woman had been skeptical when he was introduced to her but then beside herself with joy when he'd revealed he could read and speak Elvish. That had netted him the job, along with his assurances that he had the experience necessary to put together the expedition itself.

Part of which was what had brought him to the docks. Down at the end, where the would-be caravan guards hung out waiting for merchants in need of such things. Rates tended to be pretty standard, depending on route and value of cargo (each man calculating the danger of each trip for himself), and thus they tended to show up wearing their best gear as that sort of thing made it easier to sell themselves as worth more coin per man. Could backfire, though, if an inexperienced merchant thought a given warrior was capable of handling trouble on his own when three would be needed... but Kerr wasn't an inexperienced merchant. Not at all. He took a close look at those arrayed there, standing back and watching for a bit, before deciding to make his move.

He jumped up on a nearby barrel and called out in his best carnival barker voice. "Ladies, gentleman, warriors all! I have a job proposition! A... well provisioned patron has employed me to recruit men for an expedition inland, in search of a forgotten site. Travel pay will be standard," he called seeing a few start to lose interest but his smile never faltered. "But I have been authorized to make hardship rewards available. Combat with non-expeditionary foes will get a member who fights double pay for the day. A healer is already recruited, you will not have to pay for care nor will your wages be docked." A couple of the less accomplished types were starting to look interested but the more experienced guys were staying critical. The experienced guys didn't like going off the beaten path and for good reason. Most of them had families and wore the scars of hard earned lessons from their youth.

That was fine, though, because the younger ones would be enthusiastic and cheaper. That'd save him budget room for some of the other things he needed. "Who'd like to know more?!" A trio of the younger ones came toward him immediately with two others wavering toward the decision...
