Morris narrowed his eyes at Kerr as the man switched languages. Though he was indeed a dwarf, he didn't understand one lick of what the man had said. He could at least tell it was Dwarvish, but that didn't truly help much. "I don' understand that lad" he knew it would be odd...but he couldn't really help if he had never learned the tongue he had been born to. Hadn't really gotten a chance to really. Glancing at Andrew, he rolled his eyes a bit as he noticed his friend was already asleep. Honestly...had he no sense of self preservation? Then again...this was Andrew he was thinking about. 

Leaving his friend to rest, he heard a rumble and frowned, and got to his feet soon after Kerr's warning. He made for the boat, the vessel well used to waters much worse than a flash flood. There was only one problem. Andrew had not stirred at the cry and was swept away even as Kerr lost his footing. "Ack!" Sure, Andrew could swim, but that was if he was conscious enough to do so. Giving out a curse, Morris heard a startled bleat from Bill, and noticed that Hammish was aiming for higher grounds even in the rush of the waters. 

The animals would have to fare on their own. Morris was more concerned about Andrew. There was no time to make use of the boat, and besides the sails had been used to add to their shelter for the night. It was a good thing that he also knew how to swim. So he let himself be swept away, guiding himself to where he had spotted his friend last, heart racing. Please let him make it... Morris wasn't sure if it was good luck or fate as he caught sight of Andrew snagged against something. Though...it didn't look like his friend was breathing...at least not at this distance.

Morris pushed himself to swim faster, and finally reached his friend, he shouldered the half limp weight and glanced around in a panic for any sign of a clear enough spot to climb upon. With only a bit of rock nearby, not even dry, the dwarf just aimed for that. It at least wasn't completely submerged. With more than a bit of effort on his part, he got Andrew to it and pulled him up on the waterlogged surface. "Lad..." He got no response, and saw that Andrew indeed was not drawing breath. 

Surely he wasn't... Morris sought out a pulse then started the motions to revive his friend. He wasn't quite lost to the world after all, and had likely just accidentally taken in water since he had been practically asleep when the flood hit them. It felt like eternity and no time at all to get Andrew to cough up the water, and his friends eyes fluttered a bit before a groan came from the man. 

Then...
Well, it was certainly odd to say the least. 
As Andrew moved, slowly trying to gain purchase on their water covered rock...which was really more like a boulder now that Morris really looked at it, as Andrew moved, the water started to recede but only from the safety of the rock, with the rest of the flood still rushing by. Was...Andrew doing that?! "What in blazes?" Though Morris knew what magic was...he had never thought his friend would have a spark of it. Andrew groaned again, and stopped trying to right himself, simply laying limp against their small spot of safety. 

Morris glanced around them, wondering how long Andrew could keep the waters at bay. 

Kerr Blackwood

Things happened in the north. Creatures that most men believed to be bedtime stories were genuine concerns in the deep forests. But even more dangerous would always be the simple logistics of being so far from proper civilization. Food, water, and shelter were something you had to actually think about at all times because it wasn't as easy as just marching to the next village a halfday away. You could travel in the same direction for more than a week without finding people, and that was if you were traveling in the right direction to begin with. Water was about but you had to have a care when approaching it, due to some of the above mentioned creatures also liking such places. If you were lucky, it would be a mere trickster pulling you in and sending you down river in the rapids to see you thrown against the rocks. That was survivable, however, if you knew what to do. It took several seconds to manage the task but Kerr eventually got his feet 'down stream' from him and put his ankles together.

With his arms crossed on his chest he was able to kick off the rocks after only being slammed into two. He wasn't on the leading edge of the flood, the water that had come through the camp had been hitting high ground, but that was for the best. If he'd been on the leading edge he'd have been churned against the ground and beaten to death by whatever debris the flood had picked up. Another spot of high ground appeared and he rolled into it as hard as he could. The gods were with him that night and he found purchase, rolling out of the water and ending up on his stomach. He wanted to just lay there, catch his breath and rest his body but just like in battle that wasn't an option. He pushed up and his combat instincts were proven correct, the little spit of high ground was quickly proving to be not high enough. He needed to find his next option, figure out a response, because soon he'd be in the water again. That was when he spotted the Dwarf hauling his friend out of the water and onto a boulder.

Down stream from him, off a ways to the side. If he threw himself at it, he thought as the water washed over the toes of his boots informing him his high ground was no more. He windmilled his arms to get the blood flowing and took two careful steps back, knowing now that he had two good steps of mostly solid ground in front of him he launched himself back into the water with a running jump. Bending his knees on impact with the surface to ensure he didn't injure himself on the unknown depths. He rolled and started swimming "up and across" in an attempt to get to that big rock. The fact that he kept striking shallows actually helped as he was able to bully his way against the current briefly here and there with the help of the ground. Something was happening up there but he couldn't afford to focus on it as he made his way toward it. Until, quite suddenly, he was shocked to find himself exiting the water to smack into the side of the rock. It was pure instinct and no small amount of luck that he found purchase and was able to cling to it when he did.

Kerr looked up at the Dwarf with confusion plain on his face. "Uh... what's happening?"
