New to Giralda, I see. Well, it takes all sorts around here. Take that shifty-eyed weasel by the fire.
Oh, he acts looks like a simple merchant, peddling meager wares, but watch what you say around him. The Empire’s got ears everywhere...
See those two there? They seem all chummy now, but that’s only because Var is trying to convince Jarek to desert the navy in Thisbē and join
those lawless bastards who sail from the Spice Isles. I’m sure that one will kill the other before the week is out, once they’ve got what they want from each other.
Then there’s always the usual mercs; bastards who’d happily kill their own mothers for a coin. Oh, they say those twins from Brelan aren’t so bad,
but a merc is a merc, and money is all they see.
At least there're no damned elves here tonight. One got uppity last month when I insisted the
bastard slept in the stables. A damn generous offer for a half-breed, if you ask me!
Mind yourself if you head into the Wilds. It’s full of things that
would happily eat you and shit you out without a second thought. Even the people who hunt those things are more beast than civil.
Anyway stranger,
what'll it be: a room, or a drink?

CURRENT MONTH: DJALAY, 762
The summer heat swells to nigh unbearable. Nights do not bring the same relief they did before the solstice. Rain is extremely rare. If it rains at all, it comes in short intense bursts; hardly enough to soak the ground. Droughting and wildfires are commonplace in lowlands.

Crystal stood on the docks and watched the people nearby with no real expression or emotion showing. Her crew was bustling about, taking cargo off that they could trade as a cover. As the captain, she felt she should stay within earshot, even if she fully trusted the men and woman that shared the Fairbreeze with her as their home. A part of her wished that she was gazing upon Brelan, but since it was still winter, they would have been a bit stuck there until the mountain passes could be traversed. So that had made that option unavailable, though once she found her missing dolts, they may make sail for her birthplace.
Crystal gave a soft sigh at the thought of the two males who had left. The captain actually didn't mind when people left her crew, it had happened before and it would happen again. She just liked knowing why and once she scolded the two-because she was sure she would find them together-she would get their reasons out of them and then be on her merry way back to her ship. The thought of leaving the vessel behind did not unsettle her, she had done it before and she was leaving it in capable hands to protect it.
Which was the second reason that she had chosen Oborne as the place to dock for an extended time. Out in the wilds, people didn't seem to care as much about seeing if her crew were really traders or not. They tended to focus on the goods offered more than the people offering it. Which is why she had quickly decided that Thisbē would be right out as an option as well. Too many people asked too many questions there, and the military would poke about her boat and probably find the more unsavory items on board. That actually left this dock as the only option since the islands didn't really offer a way to get to the main mass of lands that she was sure her two missing crew members were traveling in.
Here they were offered a decent amount of privacy, fewer questions, and maybe some extra coin for the items they were trading. All positives in her point of view and as a bonus one of her men had already told her there were no wanted posters of her present here. So no one would really know who she was...hopefully. Crystal didn't really have the patience to avoid being put in jail on top of searching for her dolts. The two were part of her older members, closer to her in age than some of the others. So a part of her could understand why they had possibly left.
... Well, actually for one of them she knew the full reason he had left was to be with the first one. Those two were so attached that she had been surprised to see the second male still around when the first had been found to be missing. Shaking her head a little she glanced back at her crew. Mixed races and mixed gender, she didn't judge when it came to who she accepted to sail with her. As long as they could pull their own weight and handle being on the sea, then they were more than welcome. Right now they were nearly finished with unloading and she allowed herself a small smile as she felt a bit of pride for her men and women.
Then she focused on the small town again and her smile faded as she thought of where her missing dolts might be. One she was sure would have a boat by now, since she doubted he could go without being on water for long. There were various places where he could sail on a smaller vessel, and also docks where it was possible trade for money. It didn't really help narrow down where she could search, which was slightly frustrating. It was if he didn't want to be found...then again he had always had a kind of respect for her that bordered on fear. Something about her reminding him of his sister.
Which she had felt some joy in actually. Her crew were her family, the older ones her akin to siblings, the younger ones more like her children, but they were hers to guide, teach, and lead. Hers to fight beside, and share their victories together. To mourn those lost together. Crystal made sure they all felt welcome, but she also allowed them the freedom to leave if they wished it...as long as they told her she was more than happy to see them seek out other ways of life.
So it all really boiled down to that: the two hadn't told her why they were leaving, which made her quite cross, to the point where she was willing to scour the lands to find them with a few of her members by her side. As well as her faithful pet of course, who currently was resting on the dock watching the people as sharply as she did, if not more so. Crystal smiled softly again at the thought of the animal then started to move. Her crew were nearly finished and she wasn't going too far yet.
They would rest here for at least the night before heading out into the open lands. If the Inn didn't have enough room, they would sleep on the ship as they nearly always did. Her crew would drink while she put her mind to choosing a decent course of action. She would find her dolts, even if she had to travel in every land to do so.

Khalin leant back in his chair and pused the empty plate further onto the table, pausing to wipe the grease from his fingers on his black doublet, He yawned contentidly and ran his eyes around the room as he sipped his ale. He'd not been in town for long, and if pushed, would not have been able to say why he'd even stopped. If nothing eles the last two days had been a welcome break from the saddle. Khalin was not a good rider, and the while the beds in the inn where not all that comfortable, they sure as hell beat riding a damned horse. Besides, he thought, the food was decent, the ale tolerable, and there was usually a game of dice or cards to pass the time.
Sitting down his ale, Khalin took a coigarette from behind his ear and lit it on the candle in front of him, drwaing in a deep breath, he held it before blowing it out. The mercenary stood and stretched then whistled to grab the bar keeps attention. "Keep an eye on my stuff." he orded, nodding towards this bag and weapons on the corner table he had been using. "I'm going for a piss." he said, walking out of the tavern, swingin the door back with a bang.
Puffing away on his cigarette, Khalin hummed to himself as he emptied his bladder on the side of the inn.
